| Customer Reviews: Great images, fast autofocus February 21, 2010 Mr. G. Robinson (Newcastle -upon -Tyne UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this to use with my Nikon D3 and is the first autofocus lens I've owned. Quite impressed with it's ability to focus quickly. It also delivers excellent images with the D3 camera.
For printing up to A4 prints it's hard to fault and is an ideal lens for wedding photography and landscapes. Be aware it doesn't have an aperture ring if you've used manual lenses before
like I have. It is a great lens and is sharp and fast.

A brilliant little all-rounder lens at an economical price. Can get quite good close ups as well.
Cheap and cheerful March 6, 2010 Peter Piper 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've got one of these lenses and to be honest I'm not too impressed with it. Mine came with the camera and to be honest the first thing I've done is order more lenses as this really isn't a great lens. It's a very average lens doing nothing particularly well.
It's not really fast enough for indoor use and bearing in mind the 1.5x multiplier (okay it's a crop factor!) for digital cameras, it has a focal range of 42-120 which is less use than it sounds. It won't get you particularly close to any action, is too slow for portrait use and not wide enough for landscapes.
BUT....have you seen the price? It's a snip! Perfect gift for someone who knows little about photography but you want to think has had some serious money lavished on them. If you ARE buying for that reason, I think you'd be better off buying a Tamron AF 55-200mm F4.5-5.6 Di II LD Macro Nikon (not fully compatible with D40/D40X/D60/D5000) which at £65.66 from Amazon at time of writing is still pretty cheap and gives a decent focal range of 83mm-300mm.
But if the lens is for you, I'd save up a little more and buy a Nikon 50mm F1.8D AF Nikkor Lens. Yes it's a fixed focal length, but it's speed will be far more use to you than this old Ford Escort of a lens. Also consider the excellent value Nikon 18-55mm VR f3.5-5.6 AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens which is a great lens. :)
Nikon 28-80mm AF-G Lens f 3.5 - 5.6 - Black April 22, 2010 Y. Andrews (uk) A low end of the market 28-80mm Nikon lens.Light weight due to the plastic construction which although does not feel particulary nice has made it very cheap and light but still contains Nikon lense's and hardware making it very usable. Auto focus is quick and precise and the results are as good as many more expensive equivalents.
